“I think lightning just hit the tracks because all the gates just came down.”

    It means that the lightning stuck the railroad tracks, and the spike of electricity fooled the gates into thinking a train was coming, so all the gates lowered.

    oh! I didn’t think it was literalI thought it was some sort of figure of speach for something that meant something else. Like, if you were telling me something complicated that I didn’t understand, I could say “lightning just hit the tracks and all the gates came down.”
