Painting with sand
Tibetan Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery in India will be constructing a mandala sand painting at Illinois College next week — and I should go.
The opening ceremony — during which the lamas consecrate the site and call forth the forces of goodness through chanting, music and mantra recitation — will be held 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel. The sand painting will then be constructed in the Kellogg Atrium of Parker Science Center from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday; 1-8 p.m. Wednesday; and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday. The closing ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Parker Science Center.
